Bodega Rutini / La Rural
140 years, a wine museum unique in Latin America, first in the Uco Valley
In 1885 Don Felipe Rutini (an Italian from Ascoli Piceno) founded Bodega La Rural in Coquimbito, Maipú, and his wines went on to become a byword for top quality. True to his innovative spirit, around 1925 the winery was the first to plant vineyards in the Uco Valley – now recognised worldwide as one of the leading wine regions. After Felipe’s death in 1919 his descendants carried on: Doña Ernesta and her sons Francisco, Italo and Oscar. In the 1930s they planted premium red and white varieties in Tupungato and on their properties in Maipú and Rivadavia. They launched ‘San Felipe’ in its distinctive ‘canteen bottle’ and ‘Felipe Rutini’ (for the 100th anniversary). Wine Museum: 4,500 original pieces, unique in Latin America and one of the most important of its kind in the world. Current winemaker: Mariano Di Paola. Vineyards between 600 and 1,200 m above sea level. Exports to more than 30 countries, including France. 140 years of history.
